Selecting the right HANS device

With the MSA rule changes coming into force a lot of people are now ready to buy a HANS device for the first time, but it can be difficult to choose the right one. There are a lot of different options available and it's easy to be confused. Hopefully this short article will help you to make the right choice. As a size guide we find that a small is for those with a neck size below 15", medium for 15" - 17" and large for those with a neck size over 17". In the description of HANS devices the angle refers to the angle that the arms are at, 20º is the most common. Please note that all prices shown here are excluding VAT.

More Then One Car?

The first question you need to ask yourself is 'Am I going to be in different cars?'. We find a lot of historic racers, people starting out on the single seater ladder and rally co-drivers tend to be in different cars throughout the season or in the course of two/three seasons. For a value for money HANS Device which still has great features the Schroth Sport XLT is a good option for you. It is available in either medium or large size with 20⁰ angle. Weight is around 810 grams. It is well worth a look for those looking for a value for money option which still shares some of the features as more expensive models.

New to the market if the HANS III model. Weighing only 650 grams this model is incredibly light weight for a budget model. Prices start from £249.95. This device is available in either medium or large.
